Take 5 With Zan Rowe Season 2
#ArtDirection #MotionDesign #GraphicDesign
I returned as Art Director / Lead Motion Designer for Season 2 of Take 5 with Zan Rowe. My role was to lead the art direction for the show’s graphics and deliver a full graphics package that included: Opening Titles, Supers, Song Titles, Song Lyrics, Episode Archive Graphics and Film Clip Graphics.
Noel Gallagher
With Noel’s episode I introduced a brand new graphics device - the television collage, that carried over to a lot of the graphics for Season 2 as well as the trailer. Every visual in the show is consciously housed in era specific graphic frames that help communicate this sense of time and nostalgia for the audience. I wanted to support a lot of Noel’s personal stories and music references with 80s/90s television sets that take the audience back to that specific era in music too.

Natalie Imbruglia
Each episode of Take 5 takes you on such an intimate journey through the memories recalled by each celeb. It’s important to help establish this context for the viewers through the graphics. I consciously design the photos and footage so they are housed in era specific frames that help establish context.
For the INXS story I wanted to capture how she idolised Michael Hutchence by framing all his shots in beautiful “rockstar” archive photo frames. For the personal family photos, I set up a photo album style graphic that helps evoke memories of flipping through old photo albums as a kid (which we had so many of growing up!) and for the shots of her talking about her 80s Whitney perm I matched the mood of the song and story by designing it up to specifically have a more 80s style colour palette.

Jimmy Barnes
Jimmy’s ep took us a few decades further back than the other guests this season which meant I was able to play with some new textures for the photo framing to match the older archive.
