Art Direction
The first half of the feature was designed to intentionally be with dark tones and visuals. This reflects when the two ladies talk about what it was like being queer in Iran and the dangers they faced while living in their home country.
I wanted to create a build up to the pivotal ‘Coming out’ moment that occurs in the feature as well as provide a meaningful contrast when we see dark / colour.
The 'Coming Out' Moment
When the Iranian woman comes out to her mother, a switch in storytelling happens. Not only does she feel freer and liberated but we also start talking about the revolutionary protests occurring in Iran in the current climate.
I wanted to reflect this in the graphics by suddenly having an outpouring of colour in the feature. The colour not only reflects the LGBTQIA+ community but also hope & solidarity with the brave people fighting against the Iranian regime.
